Herbs: Some of the Benefits They Have On Your Skin

God has provided us with wonderful herbs in which we can use for our health and benefit. I love studying ways in which I can provide better care for my body. I also believe that this is what God desires us to do: take care of ourselves and the body He has given us.

Herbs have many different uses for your skin, not only for external health, but internal as well. God blesses us here on earth because He is a wonderful and caring God. He created this world that we live in and made us in His own image. Because of this we have a soul, as well as knowledge of a Lord who cares for us. He gave us the world to rule over and to protect. We are to be good stewards of what we are given, to use these things and to enjoy them. He gave us His Son and the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, that through His death and resurrection we may live. God, even from the very beginning, knew what we needed in order to survive and be well. He provides us with clothes to wear and food to eat, that we may nourish ourselves and dress to please the Lord. He gives us shelter and houses to be protected in. He provides us with friends and family so we are not alone: Parents to guide us, sibling to love us, grandparents to advise us, family to surround us, and friends to grow beside us. We are given this world in which to live, even though we are aliens here; for as Christians, this is only our temporary home. We can fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ, and we can live our lives seeking our Heavenly Father by doing what might please Him.

All of this and more shows that our creator is looking out for us. Besides all of these things, God has also blessed us with useful and amazing healing herbs. These plants, weeds, flowers, trees, shrubbery, and vegetables, can all be used for the benefit of your body, the temple of the Lord. They provide internal benefits, such as every-day sicknesses, digestive problems, organ weaknesses, weight loss, and memory; it also boosts the immune system, cures or prevents diseases and cancers, and gives the inward health you need for a more beautiful outward appearance. These plants also benefit the skin in general, in which area I am most prominent to discuss now. They strongly help common problems such as acne and blackheads, slows the "nightmare" of physical aging ;P and brings out a vibrant and healthier skin tone. It gives your face a beautifying color, and enhances texture and hydration to your skin.

I have chosen 15 different common herbs that are used particularly for different skin conditions. These herbs are: Spruce, Dandelion, Oak Bark, Violet, Basil, Chamomile, Fennel, Green Tea, Lavender, Peppermint, Red Raspberry, Rose Petals, Rosemary, Plantain, and Licorice Root. Now, keep in mind that there are many, many more herbs that can be used for skin and external health care; I, however, have simply chosen 15 to study and expound on.

SPRUCE 1 : The needles are extremely high in vitamin C, and can be made into toners and healing balms, for they have properties beneficial for anti-acne formulas. This tree medicine can be used to help oily skin and large pores. The antimicrobial, antibacterial, anti-infectious, and anti-inflammatory properties make it especially helpful for your skin, and it is even useful for certain kinds of wounds.

The root promotes clear skin, and as a beautifier helps large pores, age spots, sunburn, and chapped skin. It can also be used to curb growths such as warts. The root, leaves, and sometimes flowers can be used in every way, including for boils, itching areas, and arthritis. It can clear and tone skin, balance oils, fight acne, and hydrate. Applying cooled strong tea can help reduce puffy eyes. It keeps skin glowing, taut, supple, and smooth. It also supplies the body with essential minerals to bring oxygen to skin by unclogging grime, dirt, and germs from deep within the pores. It's loaded with minerals and vitamins A, C, and E.

GREEN TEA 8 : This extremely common tea is another amazing tool to use on your skin! Its main healing power is for acne. It's used to cleanse, tone, and purify your skin. You can do something as simple as brewing the tea and leaving it cool; then wetting you face with it several times over a period of several days.

It's antibacterial side helps with blackheads and acne. It works well against dry or oily skin, and cares for a dull and lifeless tone. Being very moisturizing and healing to damaged skin, Rosemary is rich in iron, calcium, and vitamins, and works also as an anti-oxidant. It's anti-inflammatory properties sooth the skin, burns, eczema, itchiness, and sunburn. It's very anti-aging and reduces the chance of wrinkles, and lightens dark spots.

It also is great at reducing dark circles under the eyes and the dark marks caused be scars, being a perfect beautifier.

Now, there are several ways in which you can use these herbs in order to apply them to your face or other areas of your skin. Like I have already mentioned, many herbs can be brewed into teas, then you would wash your face with that tea several times each day over a decent period of time. You can also make your own yogurt, honey, clay, and oatmeal masks; there are many fun recipes on line. More options would be to do a facial scrub or steam with certain herbs, make yourself a bath soak, eye compress, sunburn soother, or simply drink your cup of tea every day.

There are many other exotic recipes and treatments on line. So many options! The most appropriate time to apply these herbal remedies is simply when you feel your skin needs an extra boast, whether it is once a month to shine up your complexion, or every day to help heal your suffering physical beauty.

Be aware of allergies... if you have a tendency to be allergic to many things, just be cautious at first with what you put on your skin until you know that it does not cause a rash or other irritations. Also, if you are taking other medical supplements or have specific interactions with other medicine, you should consult a doctor or do some research to be sure you aren't taking (internally) herbs that will react negatively with those drugs. At the same time, be sure the herbs you take internally are also safe if you are pregnant. You can often find out the answer to this by doing some research on reliable online sources.

When taking these herbs internally, not only could you drink the tea, but other options would be to make tinctures, pills, smoothies, chopped into food, or any other way you can imagine.

Herbs are, in fact, God-given gifts to us as humans. We are to recognize this gift, and thank the Lord for it. We are to praise God for the ability of using all that He's provided us with. We must always know that what we use here on earth has been given to us by our heavenly Father, and we should use these gifts for living. We are called to learn about God's creation, and as His children, we ought to use what He places into our hands. And it's wonderful when we can teach others about what we know, too; whether through classes, simple conversation, or a small lecture with your children. Best of all, learn and understand how to use herbs for your own benefit (where you mostly need healing in your body, physically and even emotionally). Find out how and where you can find the different herbs of herbal remedies you need. Collect them after researching which herbs you can use in which ways for specific problems. You can buy herbs in many different places (whether on line or in some towns/cities), or if you enjoy such things, you can even grow your own to harvest.

God has provided us with herbs that work wonders. With these, we can polish and freshen our own health and benefit. Herbs are not only beautifiers and toners for your skin; they are essential, natural medicines for every-day health internally, physically, and mentally. Herbs are one tool God gave us as He serves to be our ultimate physician.

Merry CHRISTmas!!

Christmas... One of my favorite holidays; the day we choose to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ; the one day you actually want it to snow ;P Haha, I'm just kidding. **Sort of**

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas Day! Or Week, or Month, or however long Christmas ends up being for you, I guess. For my family, We did different things throughout the entire month of December, and even some in November and soon January. So Christmas seems to be much more of a collection of weeks versus just one day.

First of all, we went caroling with groups of friends three different times! The first night we went to the mall and took turns standing outside in the cold. And it was cold out that night. Then twice we went and visited Nursing and Assisted Living homes. We had a Jolly time!!

My sister and I were invited to a Civil War Christmas dance! It was such a fun party ;) We dressed up again in our new ball gowns, drove in -13 degree weather, played lots of games there, enjoyed being with friends, and danced some exciting dances.
My siblings and I have also gone to a few other Christmas parties put on by different friends. It's been so good to hang out with friends and family.

Of course, we can't have Christmas without sugary goodies!!!! We spent Christmas day making all kinds of cut-out cookies, and chocolate covering cereals and crackers. It was a delicious project! ;) And I think there will be plenty to do yet again before New Years Eve!!

Snowflakes!!! We've made a bunch of these and hung them all over the house. They look amazing! :D If you want to learn how to make these, click here. You will be shocked how easy these are to make! And they're a ton of fun. My 5 and 7 year old sisters even enjoy putting them together!

My New Favorite Christmas Song: "It's About The Cross", by the Ball Brothers. You can listen to it here.

Most importantly, we enjoy celebrating Jesus's birthday!!! We don't know the exact day that he was born, and it probably wasn't in the middle of winter with a bunch of white snow; but it was a real-life miracle, and we want to honor and praise the Lord for it. We set aside this time of year to give a special thanks to God for sending His Son for us, to die that we might live. What a precious, and priceless gift! All I want for Christmas, is to remember what Christ did for me, and why He came to this earth as a baby so long ago.

So, what did your Christmas look like? What is your favorite part of this special season?

Dancing One Stitch at a Time

Whoa!!!! I don't know, guys... two whole months is a long time. But between SEWING, and my new job, I've been very busy! Yes, I'm finally done with the bees!!!! And now I'm working at a wonderful, cool, comfortable little coffee shop in town. I LOVE this job!!! I've been there for a little more than a month now, and believe me... suffering all those sugary sweets and creamy Lattes is way more enjoyable than dodging bee poop and itchy stingers. But anyway, I'm finally back!

I know I promised sewing stuff/info/details/tips/etc. But after my projects were all spoken of and actually finished, I realize that I didn't have the efficient amount or quality of pictures to give too many tips, or to show in too much detail. *sorry* But I have some photos to share! And I hope you can at least enjoy seeing some of what we've created within these past months.
Watertown Civil War Harvest Ball
My sister Brianna and I went with this group of friends to an amazing Ball down in Watertown!!! We had an excellent time dancing literally the entire evening. We also stayed at a fancy hotel, so after the dance we went swimming till midnight, and then played games till 3am. Yup, it was a blast! LOL

Clintonville Civil War Picnic
Every year we attend this fun, local, old fashioned picnic. We play lots of games, and then did some awesome dancing!

WRHS Civil War Harvest Dance
My family and I put this ball together!!! It was lots of fun to plan, and we had a great turn-out. We organized it through our homeschool group, but a lot of other friends came as well!

My mom made me this gorgeous dress for my birthday!!! I wore it at the civil war picnic. I LOVED it. She let me pick out the fabric, too. AND, she didn't use a pattern!! Well, she used one pattern to get the basic bodice shape just right, but then she totally did the sleeves and everything else, all by looking at a picture!

My mom made my two little sisters these dresses for the picnic ;) They turned out SO cute! She used a few different patterns.

 Friends dancing!!!!

 ~Brianna's and my dresses~
My dress is the red one! This is the most difficult project I've tackled so far. It was time-consuming, but actually really fun! And not as hard as I had originally thought it'd be. I've made a handful of civil war gowns, but this one is definitely my favorite. It was so much fun to wear! Other than... it's REALLY hard to get on and off :P
Brianna made her new dress as well! She chose the dark blue with all the white lace. It turned out so nicely and she was absolutely beautiful. She did such a great job!

~My friend's hair style~
Just because it's absolutely gorgeous!!
~My hair~
Just because I LOVE how it turned out and I even did it on my own!!!!

~WRHS Harvest Dance~

Well folks! That's the best of the pictures I can find, at least of my sister's and my dresses!! These Civil War events are one of my absolute favorite things to be a part of. I hope you had fun looking at these pictures and gathering a small taste of how exciting this stuff can be!

*I don't have anything to share about wedding dresses... My friend found one she fell in love with and bought!
**Any possible future sewing projects might be... not for a while :P I think I'm going to be rather done with sewing  for some time! LOL

I shall twirl away to my bed now! Have a positively beautiful week! And don't forget to dance for joy and praise our Heavenly Father this Thanksgiving season!

Black Bottom Coconut Bars

Okay people... I lied. I'm not going to post our sewing projects today, simply because I haven't had time to take decent photos of the dresses I want to show off ;) But that post is coming! I promise. For now, I really would love to share with you an amazing recipe. If you like coconut (which isn't necessarily always everyone's favorite) and chocolate (okay, if you don't like chocolate, you HAVE to tell me!), then you will fall in love with these sinful treats.

Black-Bottom Coconut Bars

Ingredients

Chocolate Base

Coconut Topping

Instructions

  1. For chocolate base: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a 9-inch square baking pan with aluminum foil, leaving a slight overhang; butter bottom and sides of foil (not overhang).
  2. Place butter in a large microwave-safe bowl; melt in microwave. Add sugar and salt; whisk to combine. Whisk in egg, then cocoa and flour until smooth. Spread batter in prepared pan.
  3. Bake just until sides begin to pull away from edges of pan, 10 to 15 minutes (do not overbake). Let cool slightly while preparing coconut topping. Keep oven on for topping.

  1. For Coconut Topping: In a medium bowl, whisk eggs with sugar and vanilla. Gently mix in flour and coconut (except 1/2 cup reserved for sprinkling).
  2. Drop mounds of mixture over chocolate base; spread and pat in gently and evenly with moistened fingers. Sprinkle with reserved 1/2 cup coconut.
  3. Bake until golden and a toothpick inserted in center comes out with moist crumbs attached, 25 to 30 minutes. Cool completely in pan. Lift cake from pan, peel off foil, and cut into 24 bars. Store in an airtight container 3 to 4 days.

ENJOY!!!! And Let me know how you like it :D

Happy September!

Is it just me, or has this summer flown by WAY. TOO. FAST??? Life gets crazier and crazier the older you get; believe your parents kiddos, it's true! I never did know what my mom was talking about when I was younger, but now I know exactly what she meant. But God is good, and his blessings are never ending; I cannot complain about the life He has given me.

It's been over a month since I've written a post! :/ I'll try to do better, but quite honestly, it doesn't seem like my busy schedule will be letting up any time soon. I'm too busy working at a honey farm, extracting tons of honey, and getting stung by ornery bees... *forced smile*

Here's a general week in the September life of this young teenage graduate:
  • Sunday - I get up at 9:00am and go to church. We attend a small Baptist church ten minutes from our house. After service I come back home and usually spend the rest of the day either being really lazy and doing absolutely nothing, or I'm going bananas with cleaning the house and/or my room. Sundays are also nice to catch up on started projects.
  • Monday-Friday - I usually wake up at 7:00am and head over to Honey Meadows to extract honey for 8-9 hours. Then come home and take a shower (you get SO sticky), eat supper, and then pretty much do nothing all evening, simply because you're so sore and tired from carrying boxes and jamming your fingers on every possible frame.
  • Wednesday - is a special day because after work my siblings and I go to the park and play volleyball with a bunch of friends! However, this will be ending soon as the weather grows colder...
  • Saturday - Get up around 7:30am, and go to my piano and violin lessons. Soon, voice lessons will be added to this list of my Saturday morning tasks! And then of course, we usually have weekend plans of some sort on Saturdays.
But yeah... basically my life consists of mostly work at the moment, some fun things and events, and sleep wherever I can find it ;P

Oh!! And another recent event I was a part of was the amazing production of "Oklahoma!", by Inspiration Theatre. I helped backstage, moving props and backdrops, and fixing hair. They did an amazing job! I'd add more pictures, but quite honestly hardly any of the ones we took turned out. So here's just one to give you an idea.

Watch my blog within these next few weeks! I'm hoping to have a "sewing" post for you soon!! A handful of civil war day/picnic dresses, perhaps part of a ball gown, and wedding dress ideas.

Write ya'll later!!!

Random Craftiness

Here are some fun crafts/activities/art-projects I (or some of my family members) have messed around with recently, or at least within these last few years.

~My Best Friend's Birthday party~

This is just a glimpse of the surprise 18th birthday party I threw for my cousin last year, but it was a blast to plan! I tend to go rather extravagant in my decorations when it comes to parties and such. But I LOVE doing it, and it really doesn't cost a whole lot of extra money to be creative, when you have all the materials and supplies to do it already anyway. The snowflakes took a lot of time and work, and my fingers were SO cramped afterward, but man were they fun and beautiful afterward! The cake was a huge project, but it was a fun experience; and I gathered some great tips from my awesome-pro-cake-making Aunt ;) And Pinterest of course was helpful. Being in the middle of January called for sweet and spicy candle party favors, and of course... who can do without an adorable snowman cheese ball??? This party is one example of the kind of "craftiness" I enjoy ;)

~Easter of 2016~
My brother Joshua made this awesome cross out of trees for our church during the Resurrection week. It turned out so well and it added SO much to the special holiday! The young adults had an Easter Cantata during that weekend, and this cross was an added bonus.

~Homeschool Prom 2015~

I was a part of our prom committee for our homeschool group in 2015. I so enjoyed helping with decorations and food!!! Gathering the ideas and putting up all the decorations was such a blast.  Our theme, as you may have guessed, was "Masquerade", so we were able to go wild with all the bold colors, sparkles, costumes, and sweets! I spray painted a million tree braches, fancied up some masks with beads and feathers, and did a bunch of other fun stuff. My aunt helped my sister and I create some gorgeous wrist corsages! It was truly a wonderful experience creating our first homeschool prom ever!

~Donkey Ears~
My mom created these adorable donkey ears for my little sister, for a Christmas program she was in at our church. She also made similar ears and a tail for my other sister, who was a cow ;)

~My Graduation Party~

Again, I sort of went crazy with my graduation party ;) But I loved doing this kind of thing!!! I used a ton of junk I already had, picked wild flowers out of the ditch, grabbed the cheapest doilies I could find, spray painted random canning jars that we had, and used old picture frames and a screen door for my photo displays. I also created a photo book on Shutterfly, and used funky "school candy". And my mom was amazing with the food!!! I had a great party for the celebration of finishing high school.

~Drawing~

These are a few random drawings I have done over the years ;) I really have to be in the right mood to sit down and draw, but when I do, the only thing I can ever get to look nice, is people/faces.

Well! That's about it for right now :D Write to you all later!!!
